District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) were established in each district (initially started with 06 Nos only) in Assam in the year 1989 as per the objectives envisaged in the NEP, 1989.

Subsequently, DIET, Dibrugarh, Chabua was established in the year 1994. The main objective behind its formation was build up the edifice of the quality education right from grass root level i.e. elementary stages of formal education. In this sense it would be reasonable to define it as the most precious Headquarter of quality- oriented elementary education. It plays a vital and meaningful role in the District Education system by imparting Education for continuous teacher professional development, School support and improvement. Under this background, in compliance to the quality strive of the District.

The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Dibrugarh is a premier institution affiliated with Dibrugarh University and recognized by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), India. DIET Dibrugarh offers a range of programs, including:

• Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.)
• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)
